For years it’s been pursuing Guardian—a project at the Toyota Research Institute (TRI) focused on making human driving smarter and safer. The implementation will make all the difference to the eventual success of the Guardian approach. But at the moment Toyota’s Guardian approach seems a lot better bet than the full autonomy ones.
