Train Accident in Odisha Leaves 288 Dead, 1,091 Injured


On Friday evening, a train accident occurred at Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district, killing 288 people and leaving 1,091 injured. The accident occurred when the ‘up train’ 12841 Coromandel Express (Shalimar-Madras), passing through the Up Main line, collided with a stationary goods train in the Up Loop Line at Bahanaga Bazar station. At the same time, the ‘down train’ 12864 Yeshwantpur-Howrah Express on the Down Main Line struck the two rearmost coaches of the Coromandel Express. Odisha observed a day of mourning for the lives lost in the accident. After tracking the movement around 1:30 a.m., the army was fired upon and, in the ensuing firefight, some terrorists were injured.
