'Trigger' certificate of urgency to pass anti-LGBTQ+ bill - Adomako-Mensah

General News of Wednesday, 8 April 2026Source: www.ghanaweb.comMember of Parliament for Afigya Kwabre North, Collins Adomako-Mensah, has challenged the Majority in Parliament to expedite the passage of the controversial Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values Bill popularly called Anti-LGBTQ+ bill using a certificate of urgency. Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Morning Ghana on April 8, 2026, Adomako-Mensah said the parliamentary mechanism allows legislation to be passed within 24 hours. If they were serious about this bill, they would have pushed it through long ago. The fact that they haven’t, indicates their actual plans regarding the legislation,” he said, referring to NDC members in Parliament. The bill was passed by Parliament in 2024 but was not assented to by the then President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, pending the outcome of legal challenges before the Supreme Court questioning its constitutionality.
