It caused MPs Iain Duncan Smith, Jacob Rees-Mogg and Michael Fabricant to start backtracking on their support for the Republican presidential hopeful. When the Tories decided Gove’s future lay in writing newspaper columns, Rees-Mogg bet the house on the completely useless Andrea Leadsom. Mind you, Trump seems more than capable of losing the election on his own. Not even Sir Jake – as he will no doubt soon be called – could compete with Sir Gerald Howarth for sycophancy.
