It should have been obvious that the Iranian regime would not collapse immediately, even if its top leadership was decapitated. As a result, the Iranian regime may have come to believe that it holds the stronger hand. It remains to be seen how much more damage US democracy and soft power will suffer because of this ill-conceived foreign adventure.
