President Trump takes to the world’s largest stage this week. “People are on tenterhooks,” said Stewart Patrick, an expert on global institutions and governance at the nonpartisan Council on Foreign Relations. McMaster, the White House national security advisor, said Trump will emphasize the theme of sovereignty in his bilateral and multilateral meetings. “Sovereignty and accountability are the essential foundations of peace and prosperity,” McMaster said at the White House briefing. After his speech Tuesday morning, Trump will have lunch with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and other leaders.
