Tupperware, the household name behind the plastic food storage containers, has said it may go bust without emergency funding. The brand became a household name in the 1950s and 1960s at Tupperware Parties, where people gathered in homes to buy and sell the containers. Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData Retail, said Tupperware “failed to change with the times in terms of its products and distribution”. Customers were no longer connected with the brand, he said, including those who remembered Tupperware from its heyday. She promoted Tupperware as a door-to-door saleswoman, held parties at home to find customers and recruited salespeople to get the containers to market.
