In the hours and days following Brooklyn Nets guard Spencer Dinwiddie's three-year, $34 million contract extension, the next obvious question for the Nets was how starting point guard D'Angelo Russell would factor into the Nets' future plans. Russell will be a restricted free agent this summer, and Brooklyn has several options at its disposal on what to do with him. But the biggest thing Russell, 22, has control over in determining his future is how he performs on the court. It's something he needs to do a lot more of if he wants a lucrative second contract, in Brooklyn or elsewhere. “He was spry, he was aggressive, he was energetic,” Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson said after Sunday's game.
