Two heads of state, two athletes and an education innovator: the Africans on the Time 100 list

Five Africans have been listed on Time magazine’s annual list of the 100 most influential people globally. Poignantly, Abiy’s tribute on the list was penned by Feyisa Lilesa, the Ethiopian marathoner who famously protested against the former government at the 2016 Olympics. Abiy was one of the two African heads of state on the list. After a stellar personal first season in English soccer, Salah is now aiming for collective glory as Liverpool chase a first league title in nearly 30 years. It’s a very ambitious target given the current high rates of unemployment and rapid population growth across the continent.
