The new rules mean that people can meet up outdoors following the 'rule of six', meaning they can be from any number of different households, so long as there are no more than six people present. Alternatively, people from two households can meet up outdoors, even if there are more than six people in total. Health Secretary Matt Hancock said the progress of the vaccine roll-out “must be protected”, adding “when you meet others do so outdoors and keep a safe distance”. Organised team sports can also resume outdoors, meaning grassroots competitions can take place ahead of the Easter break without the need for social distancing.
