U.K. Organic Sales Continue To Grow, With Wine The Big Winner


A new report by the Soil Association into the organic market in the U.K. shows that sales of organic produce in 2019 were at their highest ever. The U.K. organic market “is now worth £2.45 billion ($3.12 billion) after a 4.5% growth in sales in 2019”. Organic supermarket sales grew by 2.5% although the share of organic produce being sold in supermarkets decreased by 1% as other channels grew in prominence. U.K. retailer, Waitrose, is a big winner as it is the largest supplier of organic wine with over 70 organic wines from 18 different countries. Jamie Matthewson, Wine Buyer at Waitrose & PartnersOrganic wine, however, is still a very small percentage of the total U.K. wine market.
