U.S. Ambassador to Liberia Resigns, Departs Liberia


Ambassador to Liberia from 2016 until her sudden resignation from the postMONROVIA – Alyson Grunder will now run the affairs of the United States Embassy in Liberia following the unprecedented resignation of the Ambassador, Christine Elder, who has also departed the country. Alyson Grunder arrived at U.S. Embassy Monrovia as the Deputy Chief of Mission in September 2018. She has also been the public affairs officer at the U.S. Embassies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and Kampala, Uganda, and at the U.S. Consulate in Montreal, Canada. From 1999-2001, Ms. Grunder was a press officer at the U.S. Mission to the United Nations, serving as Acting Spokesperson on 9/11. A recipient of multiple State Department superior and meritorious honor awards, Ms. Grunder is a member of the Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor.
