Meanwhile, for the fifth consecutive month, other economic indicators in the U.S. continued to show signs of an impending contraction. Before that came the news that the Index of Leading Economic Indicators fell for the third consecutive month. But, even with that it remains true that investment fell for the second consecutive quarter (if only slightly). This week they lowered their forecast for the rate of growth of fourth quarter investment spending from -1.7% to -2.7%. I still feel as if consumer spending in fourth quarter will carry us through the end of 2019.
