By Joshua KirbyU.S. services grew a little faster in November as activity and employment gained, according to an index set out Tuesday. The Institute for Supply Management's services-activity index rose to 52.7 in November from 51.8 in October. A reading above 50 points to expansion in the services sector, which has grown for the last 11 months, and 41 of the past 42, the ISM said. ISM's business-activity index rose by one point on month in November, reaching 55.1, while the employment index rose to 50.7 from 50.2 in October. Three reported decreased activity over the month, namely information, mining, and professional, scientific and technical services.
