U.S. military planes bring aid near Venezuela in an effort to boost support for Guaido

Two of three scheduled Air Force C-17 cargo planes that took off from Homestead Air Reserve Base in Florida had landed in Cucuta. “We are saving lives with these airplanes,” said Lestor Toledo, an exiled politician who is co-ordinating the international aid effort for Guaido. Guaido has called for an effort on Jan. 23 to bring the aid into Venezuela from Cucuta and two other collection points in the northern Brazilian state of Roraima and the Dutch Caribbean island of Curacao. Anibrez Peroza, a 40-year-old nurse, said she was ready if necessary to go to Cucuta in a caravan to bring in the aid. The U.S. has placed Venezuela’s U.S. assets, including oil company Citgo, under Guaido’s control and bans financial transactions by Maduro-controlled entities.
