The “buy Canadian” movement has apparently moved the needle on United States wine exports. Wine exports alone reportedly decreased by one-third from 2024 to 2025, primarily due to a decline in shipments to Canada. In 2024, Canada was “the largest single nation market for U.S. packaged exports,” BMO noted in a report on United States and Canadian wine businesses. The steep decline in wine exports was reportedly driven by a 76.8 per cent drop in shipments to Canada. Alcoholic beverages, excluding wine, decreased from US$3.1 billion to US$2.8 billion in the same time frame, resulting in a loss of US$215 million.
