The US president confirmed overnight that he has in fact invited the Russian autocrat to join his new America-run organisation. The UK is one of 60 countries which has been invited to join the board, although permanent members will have to pay a $1 billion signing up fee. “I agree that President Putin is not a man of peace and it would be absurd for him to be on the Board of Peace,” Jones said, adding the idea is “for the birds”. Trump’s extraordinary offer to Putin – who is a wanted war criminal – comes amid a flurry of shocking international moves from the US president.
