The UK's coronavirus death toll has increased by 738 in the lowest Wednesday rise this year. The death toll tallies fatalities across all settings including hospitals, care homes and the wider community. Recent Wednesday death tolls include 1,001 people this time last week, with 13,013 new infections reported. The last time the national daily death toll increase was lower on a Wednesday was on December 30, when 720 fatalities were reported. Daily deaths and infection rates have been steadily falling in the new year, as lockdowns and the national vaccine rollout takes effect.
