Forecasters have dubbed the change the return of the "Beast from the East" as a bitter band of low pressure is moving west, sending temperatures tumbling. The Met Office said the mercury hit 11.3C in Swanage, Dorset, on Sunday but by Thursday — Christmas Day — the air temperature is expected it will be as cold as 5C there. "As always, we advise everyone to keep up to date with the latest Met Office forecasts and warnings, especially if you’re making plans over the festive period." However, even in west Wales, the mercury is set to struggle to exceed 7C on Christmas Day. There are still several weather warnings and alerts in place, including a few across the Southwest of England.
