UN Appoints Haiti’s Garry Conille as Resident Coordinator in Kenya


The United Nations (UN) has appointed former Haitian Prime Minister Garry Conille as the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Kenya, with the approval of the host government, replacing Dr Stephen Jackson. Photo UNHe has also held positions as United Nations Resident Coordinator in Jamaica and Burundi, where he is credited for having demonstrated extensive experience in coordinating UN operations at the country level. During his tenure, he led efforts to address gang violence and institutional instability that had gripped the Caribbean nation, with Kenya having deployed its police officers to help restore order. However, shortly after he visited Kenya, Conille was impeached and removed from office on November 10, 2024, by Haiti’s Transitional Presidential Council, following political infighting and power struggles.
