Alexander Okere, BeninThe management of the University of Benin, Benin City, Edo State, has expelled five of its students for allegedly leading a protest against an increase in tuition fees. Our correspondent gathered that some of the affected students, who were members of the Students Union Government at the institution, were also barred from holding any office on the campus or participating in students union activities. The expelled students were accused of staging a students’ demonstration on November 24, 2017, due to the hike in tuition, an action the university authorities described as intended to disrupt the institution’s 47th Founders’ Day Lecture and the 43rd Convocation Ceremony. Osasuyi listed those affected by the decision as the current President of the Students Union, Osamudiamen Ogbidi, Justus Aidenagnon, Innocent Momodu, Goodnews Ehiabhi and Patrick Majekodunmi.
