US Dept of Transport extends deadline for retaliation decision on Dublin Airport passenger cap to May 6

The US government won’t make a decision on potential retaliatory action against Irish airlines because of the passenger cap at Dublin Airport until at least May 6. Lobby group Airlines for America (A4A) has been pushing Mr Taylor and the US Department of Transportation to curtail or suspend the rights of Irish carriers to operate between Dublin Airport and US destinations because of the cap at Dublin. The cap limits passenger numbers to 32 million per annum. Last year, Dublin Airport handled 36.4 million passengers and will handle more this year, but the passenger cap remains the official position, making planning for new or more routes challenging. A4A pushed the Government to ensure that legislation to remove the cap at Dublin Airport is removed before the EU court makes its ruling.
