Ukraine wipes out for victory with a wave of public support

The Ukrainian Kalush Orchestra won their entry, Stephania, at the Eurovision Song Contest in Italy, riding the wave of public support and claiming an emotional victory. Sung in Ukrainian, the song is a fusion of rap and traditional folk music, a homage to the band’s frontman Oleh Psiuk’s mother. After the judges voted, the entry came in fourth, but jumped to the top in a large public vote for their song, Stephania. A British participant who played Spaceman’s song, Samrider led the field after the judges voted and finished second overall. Singer Sam Rider will perform on behalf of the United Kingdom in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 at the Paraalpitur venue in Turin.
