Ultralight plane used to smuggle 200 pounds of meth across border, prosecutors say

Agents from the U.S. Border Patrol and the Air and Marine Operations Center in Riverside tracked the ultralight using radar and a thermal night-vision scope, the affidavit states. The surveillance indicated that the aircraft spiraled downward in the area of the Coachella Canal near North Shore before turning south back toward Mexico. A Border Patrol agent who was in the area activated his lights and siren in an attempt to intercept the vehicles, a Polaris RZR 1000 and a 2019 Can-Am. Border Patrol agents arriving at the scene saw two men trying to swim away. In total, 26 Tupperware packages containing almost 185 pounds of methamphetamine were recovered from the buggy and the canal, authorities said.
