Unlimited Data? No Overage Fees? Making Sense of Smartphone Plan Madness


T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T have brought back unlimited data plans. You can now easily find rollover data, protection from overage penalties, and yes, even unlimited plans that won’t break the bank. While smaller operators, like Google’s Project Fi, let you pay for just what you use, the big carriers are revisiting unlimited data plans. AT&T’s also offers an unlimited data tier, though annoyingly it’s only available to DirecTV or U-verse subscribers. (Verizon’s ancient unlimited plan is still around for subscribers who never dropped it, but Verizon does police it for abuse.)
