The Sh400 million refurbished Mathare-Korogocho Hospital is to be commissioned in July, offering a full range of treatment. The Level 5 hospital will reduce overcrowding and intake at Mama Lucy Hospital, the main health facility in Eastlands. NMSdirector general Mohammed Badi said work is 80 to 90 per cent complete on the five-story Mathare-Korogocho Hospital. Nineteen out of the 24 health facilities are being built from scratch while the other five are being rehabilitated, including Korogocho-Mathare. The Uthiru-Muthua Hospital is Level 3 while the other three — Kiamaiko, Soweto and Ushirika — are Level 2 facilities, or dispensaries.
