The presence of six Uruguayan interior studios at the 2016 designjunction fair in London places the country in the "big leagues" of the field, an official with Uruguay's export and investment promotion agency told EFE. The fair offers "a great opportunity" for Uruguayan firms to impress the industry, Uruguay XXI spokeswoman Andrea Damico said. The designjunction event runs Sept. 22-25 as part of the London Design Festival. Menini credited the Uruguayan government for including design as an exportable service in Montevideo's foreign trade policy. While Uruguayan design studios do produce furniture and other decor items, their focus internationally must be on "the sale of professional design services," he said.
