PUTRAJAYA (Bernama): The Covid-19 vaccination programme for the retail sector, involving about 500,000 workers, will begin next month, says Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi (pic). The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said his Ministry, which has been tasked with planning and co-ordinating the retail sector vaccination programme with all the related industry players, would implement it with the co-operation of the Covid-19 Immunisation Task Force (CITF). "Considering the Covid-19 situation in the country, there is a need to speed up giving the vaccines to the economic frontliners, especially workers in the retail sector, to achieve herd immunity in the country," he said in a statement Friday (May 28). According to Nanta, a meeting with CITF, associations and retail industry players was held on Friday, involving some 60 retail sector industry players. Nanta said the ministry would also work with the Complex Management Association of Malaysia, Malaysia Retailers Association and the Malaysia Retail Chain Association to set up vaccination centres at strategic locations nationwide.
