Most of the Homalco band now live on their reserve in Vancouver Island’s third largest city, Campbell River, which has a population of 35,000. I’ve taken a two-hour boat ride from Campbell River with Go Wild, an adventure tour group, to see the bears in their natural habitat. And Campbell River is an ideal location to begin to explore it all. (You can learn about the history of central and northern Vancouver Island in the excellent Campbell River Museum.)
