LAS VEGAS — Vegas Golden Knights defenceman Nate Schmidt had better or more necessary things to do on Saturday night than watch Edmonton Oilers beating Arizona in overtime on Connor McDavid’s goal. “I was doing my taxes,” Schmidt told Golden Knights website insider Gary Lawless. “I like to know what and where I spend things on except for my food. I remember my first year pro my financial guy said, ‘This is the least money you’ll ever spend,’’’ said Schmidt. He is making $2.225 million this season as Golden Knights driver on the blue line, but signed a six-year extension with a $5.95 million cap hit that kicks in next season, so $35.7 million.
