The rusting husks of old cars, cranes, bulldozers and motorbikes line the streets of Te Lo recycling village, just 60km from Hanoi. This small, former farming community is where Vietnam’s corroded old vehicles go to die. Vast piles of motorbikes, time-worn engines, axles and metal cogs regularly crop up in around 400 recycling yards in the village. According to local reports, almost half of the local population in Te Lo have suffered from some kind of respiratory illness or digestive health issues.
