'Venus Triumph' becomes the first ship to dock at Matarbari deep seaport


The works of Matarbari Port Development Project at a cost of Tk17,775 crore began on Nov 16 this yearBangladesh’s first-ever deep seaport in Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali has welcomed the very first ship to its docks Tuesday morning. The vessel "Venus Triumph" hoisting the Panamanian flag arrived at Matarbari deep seaport jetty at 10:30am with the parts necessary for steam generation. Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Abul Kalam Azad, executive director of Bangladesh Coal Power Generation Company, said: “The Venus Triumph, setting sail from an Indonesian seaport, headed for the Matarbari deep seaport along with parts necessary for steam generation on December 22. Ships will now be able to enter the port jetty from the Bay of Bengal through this channel. The Matarbari port, the first-ever deep-sea port of the country, will be operational by the end of 2025 or the beginning of 2026 and it will boost trade through the Chittagong port.
