'Very disappointing': Over 230 motorists found driving under the influence


Over 230 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs over the St Patrick's Bank Holiday Weekend. The number of motorists driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs over the bank holiday weekend was “very disappointing”, according to gardaí. A total of 235 individuals were arrested for driving under the influence, while over 5,000 motorists were found speeding. Some of the notable speeding incidents recorded during the week include:124 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on the R178 in Redbog, Dundalk, Co. Louth138 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N18 Ballinacurra (Weston), Co. Limerick133 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the South Ring Road137 km/h in a 120 km/h zone on the M7 in Lewistown, Naas, Co.
