BENGALURU: Padma Awardee and renowned ecologist Madhav Gadgil breathed his last late Wednesday night, January 7, in Pune. Born on May 24, 1942, Gadgil was a towering figure in Indian ecology and academic research. He published over 250 scientific papers on population biology, conservation biology, human ecology, and ecological history.
