Borussia Dortmund missed-out on the biggest trophy of the season on Saturday, though it was the cup's comically large size rather than prestige which caught the eye. Newly promoted Bundesliga side Vfl Bochum ran-out 3-1 winners in the pre-season match on Saturday despite the German giants fielding the likes of Marco Reus and Julian Brandt. The victory saw striker Silvere Ganvoula lift the Cup der Traditionen (Cup of Traditions), an annual three-team tournament staged before the season kicks-off properly. It was a disappointing way to begin the 2021-22 campaign for the favourites, but BVB will be focused on more important – if much smaller – silverware this season. Soma Novothny, Silvere Ganvoula and Herbert Bockhorn scored quick-fire first-half goals to charge ahead, before Marco Pasalic fired in a consolation in the 83rd minute.
