IPOH: The village chief who was arrested in Perak Tengah earlier this week for selling fireworks and illicit cigarettes will remain innocent, until proven guilty. Perak Rural Committee chairman Asmuni Awi said the state will not be taking action against the 57-year-old, unless he has been charged and found guilty by the courts. It was reported that the village chief was arrested for selling fireworks and illicit cigarettes in Kampung Gajah on Monday (May 27). The man was found to have kept 1,000 pieces of fireworks and 74 cartons of cigarettes with a total value of RM7,000. When asked whether the state has filtered and evaluated all village chiefs appointments, Asmuni said they have done so.
