Senators Joel Villanueva and Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr., in separate proposals, are seeking to strengthen the employment rights of the members of the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ (AFP) reserve force. “Unfortunately, reservists often risk losing their civilian careers when they render military service,” Villanueva said. Echoing Villanueva, Revilla pointed out the lack of laws covering the welfare of military reservists. Their military service, likewise, shall not be considered a break in their regular jobs and their vacation or service incentive leaves for leave of absence cannot be used in connection with their military service.
