Violence Displaces More Than 90,000 People in Benishangul Gumuz StateBy Staff ReporterOctober 4,2018 - The number of displaced people fleeing the attack and violence by armed gangsters in Benishangul Gumuz regional state has jumped to 90,000, a senior Ethiopian official disclosed on Thursday. Speaking to the media, Debebe Zewedie, Public Relations and Communications Director of the National Disaster Risk Management Commission said about 16,182 households comprising of 91,348 people have been displaced following the attacks and violence that occurred in different parts of Benishangul Gumuz state, mainly in Kamashi zone of the regional state. Some reports put the number of displaced people from the regional state to more than 100,000 excluding those people who fled into jungles. "Sometimes, the gangsters allow some vehicles to go into the regional state after they receive money from the drivers, though majority of the vehicles are stranded at gates of the regional state." Zelalem saidIt is to be recalled that armed gangsters have been attacking innocent people in different parts of Benishangul Gumuz regional state of Ethiopia, so far killing at least 44 people as of yesterday.
