PETALING JAYA: A WhatsApp message telling people not to use several Malaysian e-banking and online retailers because they had been affected by the WannaCry ransonware is not true. The message, which precedes a link to an actual news article on The Star Online to give it credence, is a complete fabrication. The fake message warns people not to use e-banking websites such as CIMB Clicks, Maybank2U and RHB Now, as well as to avoid online retailers such as Lazada, Zalora, Shoppu, Carousell, McDonald's, KFC Delivery and Pizza Hut Delivery. The actual newspiece, however, only warns that the WannaCry ransonware has hit Malaysia, describes its effects and how it spreads, quoting CyberSecurity Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab. Dr Amirudin has also denied making any such statement about the supposed warning in the fake message.
