The Dutch international joined the Reds for a world-record fee for a defender in January. Jurgen Klopp was forced into a change ten minutes into the second half when van Dijk picked up an injury against his former club. Joe Gomez came onto the field as his replacement after being dropped for goalscorer Joel Matip. First half goals courtesy of Wesley Hoedt (own goal), Matip and Mohamed Salah were enough to give the Reds the points.
