This correction, however, is slight balm, coming from a prime minister who has been publicly denigrating the judiciary for the past year or two, with unseemly vigour. During the past election campaign, the prime minister assured the public that he sought no special legal protection. So certain was he that an 11th-hour coalition deal was a slam dunk and that he would carry on as prime minister, that he played his hand, prematurely. The rationale for supporting such a law is that a prime minister must be totally focused on matters of state and not distracted by personal travails. Minister of Justice Ohana, however, has been extremely vocal in his support for this immunity proposal.
