Vodafone plans satellite-to-phone services in Ireland – for coverage ‘not spots’ and storms
Mobile operator says it will be the first in Ireland to launch the serviceSpeaking to the Irish Independent, the company’s director of networks, Sheila Kavanagh, said that while a launch date and marketing plan has not yet been set, the operator has already identified a rural testing site and aims to be the first mobile network in Ireland to launch the service — just as soon as there are enough satellites in place to maintain consistent service, and they are given the green light by the telecoms regulator, ComReg.
