Volunteers' regeneration efforts hindered by vandalism

Volunteers' regeneration efforts hindered by vandalismBRADEN FASTIER / STUFF Native plants have been vandalised at Grassy Saddle track near Richmond. Ongoing vandalism to a community-led project in Richmond has seen native saplings destroyed disheartening the volunteers working to regenerate native forest in the area. This is only the latest incident in a year-long campaign of vandalism against the restoration efforts of local volunteers. Rickerby said all new signs were specially built to be hard to remove "because we've had all this vandalism". "It's a powerplay," fellow volunteer Kevin Piper said, referring to the bizarre vandalism which sees the removal of native plants before they can get established.
