Despite being more vulnerable to illness, many older workers lack paid sick leave, including those in rapidly graying care work fields that involve close contact with others. Paid sick days are uncommon in certain jobs requiring frequent contact with patients, which can have important public health implications. Ideally, the legislation would have permanently required employers to allow every worker to earn paid sick leave of, say, 7 days. Require paid sick leave, improve the stimulus package and move on to a permanent fix.
