Since the call to temporarily abandon negotiations by the AMPTP, which spawned the request to seek strike authorization by the committee, tensions have been high in Los Angeles. Additionally, striking May 2nd, before series pick-ups are announced for upfronts, will have a direct impact on staffing for new and existing shows. Put simply, a strike now is a drastic move by the WGA that does not come lightly and without majority support. As of Monday afternoon, the strike authorization vote had 96.3% approval among the 67.5% of eligible members that had voted up to that point. The WGA is ready to go to war over its demands, even longer than the 100 day strike of 2007/2008 if necessary.
