WHO decries countries' inaction to end TB by 2030

Countries are still not doing enough to end TB by 2030, the World Health Organisation has warned. In the latest 2018 Global TB report released on Tuesday, WHO says that 1.6 million deaths were recorded in 2017, out of which 300,000 were HIV-positive people. Globally, an estimated 10 million people developed TB in 2017; 5.8 million men, 3.2 million women and one million children. "Although global efforts have averted an estimated 54 million TB deaths since 2000, TB remains the world’s deadliest infectious disease. The time for action is now," WHO Global TB Programme director Dr Tereza Kasaeva said.
