Waits for NHS treatment are getting one week longer every week, surgeons warn


Surgeons and emergency doctors have told MPs Covid-free hospital facilities should urgently be set up to start tackling the backlog. The NHS waiting list was discussed by medical leaders giving evidence to the Health Select Committee. The health service is battling the biggest challenge in its seven-decade history tackling coronavirus alongside an estimated seven million treatment waiting list. He told MPs: “Even if we can get going again, I think it’s slightly unrealistic to believe that we can get going at full speed very quickly. “We know that in April this year, we saw one million fewer patients than in the corresponding period last year.
