Wall St closes lower on rate-cut pessimism


Interest rate futures suggest traders see little chance of interest rate cuts before mid-2027, according to the CME's FedWatch tool. The S&P 500 declined 0.27% to end the session at 6,606.49 points. The Nasdaq declined 0.28% to 22,090.69 points, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.44% to 46,021.43 points. Eight of the 11 S&P 500 sector indices declined, led lower by materials, down 1.55%, followed by a 0.87% loss in consumer discretionary. The S&P 500, Nasdaq and Dow were below their 200-day moving averages, underscoring a loss of momentum in the market.
