On top of this Walz had *already* began his efforts to continue in service politically in at *least* January of 2005 (docquery.fec.gov/… ), and probably much earlier. Elements of the battalion provided force protection and security for Air Force bases in Turkey, Italy, Belgium and the United Kingdom. --------—[ Some notes;- I was unable to find my original reference for Walz 2001 reenlistment, so I used CNN, which is not a great primary source. The original said Walz was ready to retire in 2001, but I can’t verify that.
