MetService, Auckland Council, Civil Defence and the New Zealand Transport Agency all issued warnings for the Auckland and Northland regions on Thursday morning. Severe thunderstorms could hit western Nelson and Buller during the afternoon. By Thursday morning severe gale northwest winds had eased around Wellington and rain had eased over the west of the South Island.
